Your Butterfly effect
Do you believe the wings of a butterfly can cause a tornado? With wings so small and fragile, a pebble could crush them? Sounds ridiculous! But what if…
I wonder if I had enough butterflies flying in a circle, could I form a tornado then? Sadly, butterflies probably won’t ever generate enough force to birth a tornado, but you know what they can do? They can pollinate flowers as they drink nectar from them, creating new seeds and ensuring we continue to get the most beautiful flowers. So if enough butterflies drink enough nectar, we could end up with hundreds of beautiful flowers!
If butterflies can do that, then I wonder, if enough people are kind to each other, then could we, hypothetically, end up with hundreds of happy people? Surely, if you are kind to someone, and because of your kindness that person goes on to be kind to another person, and that person, because of that, goes on… Whoa, I think it could work!
Although butterfly effects are usually presented as mistakes that go on to cause great disasters, we choose what kind of butterfly effect we have on the world. We can also choose to stop butterfly effects when they get to us, breaking the chain. We can decide not to contribute to a negative butterfly effect; anger does not always have to be met with anger.
I’ve decided to be a beautiful butterfly; when I flap my wings, I want the force they create to one day bring a genuine smile to faces all around the world.
What kind of butterfly do you want to be?
