What Everyone Gets Wrong About New Year
January arrives with its familiar promises, and we speak of new beginnings as though time itself performs magic at midnight. But let's be honest about what the new year actually offers: continuation. Another chapter in the story is already being written.
In Nigeria, we know something about resilience, about carrying forward despite everything. The new year won't erase what came before, that is, the struggles, the disappointments, the weight of unmet expectations. It simply offers us another chance to choose differently. To show up with more intention. To love more fiercely, speak more truthfully, and refuse to let cynicism harden our hearts.
This year, let's reject the pressure of transformation and instead embrace evolution, which is the slow, steady work of becoming. Let's tell our own stories with honesty, acknowledging both difficulty and joy. Because real change doesn't arrive with fireworks; it comes through daily choices, through showing up for ourselves and each other, again and again.
Yours Truly,
