Uncertainty and Individuality
"You know we speak a lot about loving ourselves, but no one speaks about finding themselves, I think it’s harder to love yourself when you do not know who you are, when you do not know what you want or what you like".
Sometimes, I find myself liking things because other people like them, like when a popular artist drops a new album and everyone is hyping it, and I join in, even though I don't like that genre of music. Or when my friend group is suddenly fixated on highlighting and decorating quotes from a particular romance book but I've already read the book and didn't enjoy it.
I'm certain about the things I dislike but I'm not very sure (or proud) of what I like. I often find myself asking "Do I do this thing because my friends like it or because I actually like it?". It's often confusing. How do I treat myself right when I have not found myself?
If you feel this way too, you're not alone. I've decided to take baby steps in finding myself. To stop pretending. To be proud of things I do like. To say no to things I don't want. To be open about the things I actually love.
One step at a time, we can find ourselves and love ourselves for who we truly are.
