The Reasons
The other day my dad said to me that every disappointment is a blessing in disguise. I wasn’t so sure. Because when life is serving back-to-back Ls, it doesn’t exactly feel like a blessing. Some people are on a winning streak and others? Well, it’s looking like a season of “God, abeg.” But here’s something I’ve been thinking about: what if instead of just accepting that “everything happens for a reason,” we actually take charge of that reason?
No matter what streak you’re facing right now, know that every happening or event in our lives has a reason and we have to take control of those reasons. When you think “Why didn’t I get accepted for that role? Why does my friend treat me like this?” We can try a different approach. We can review the application, and ask for feedback, to get the areas we could improve on next time. So, instead of “I just wasn’t lucky,” the reason can become “This showed me where to improve.”
Same thing with friendships. Sometimes, people treat us in ways that make us question everything. Instead of assuming “they just don’t like me,” maybe it’s a chance to have that uncomfortable but necessary conversation, to clear the air, set boundaries, or even walk away knowing you stood up for yourself.
I guess what I’m saying is, life will always be “life-ing”. But maybe the magic is in taking control of the narrative, turning those tough moments into something that actually works for us.
What do you think? Have you ever looked back at a tough moment and seen the “blessing in disguise”?
