Stop Watering Dead Plants

How many times have you gone out of your way for someone who wouldn’t even cross the street for you? Sent long, thoughtful messages only to get "lol" or "k" in response? Offered help before they even asked, yet when you need them, they’re suddenly busier than a Lagos traffic jam? Enough!

Being kind is great. Being selfless is noble. But being excessively considerate in spaces where you’re merely an afterthought? That’s emotional gymnastics, and last time I checked, you’re not training for the Olympics.

Reciprocity is key. If they can’t match your energy, adjust accordingly. Not in a bitter, "I’ll show them" kind of way, but in a "my time and kindness deserve respect" kind of way. Because guess what? They do.

It’s not easy, but cutting back on those who don’t see your value will make space for those who do. Prioritize those who prioritize you. Match energies. Be intentional. And above all, save your love for people who don’t make you question whether you should have given it in the first place. Some people just won’t grow no matter how much love you pour in, and that’s okay. The right ones will.

So here’s to giving your time and energy to those who see and appreciate you. You deserve that. And don’t forget to water yourself, too.
