Social Media Handles Have Real People Behind Them

The world has evolved so much. I remember that when I was younger, phones barely had any other utility than exchanging phone calls and text messages, and maybe playing games. To interact with people, you actually had to see them face-to-face.

These days, almost every part of our lives is facilitated by technology using our mobile devices, so much so that it is almost impossible to live comfortably in an urban area without a smartphone. Even most of our socialising is done on our phones via social media, such that we meet, interact with and are friends with so many people whom we have never met (and probably never will).

As good as making life easier these technological advances are, we have largely become oblivious to that there are actual, real people behind social media handles. More often than not, the dragging, cancelling, sarcastic comments that we casually drop in people's comments and DM's are unnecessary and uncalled for. I mean, it's okay to not always see eye to eye on issues, but in responding/interacting with others on social media, let us always keep in mind that the person on the other end of the phone is an actual human with emotions. A person who can get hurt and depressed.

We shared and reposted quotes and fliers a couple of weeks ago to celebrate World Mental Health Day, but beyond all of that, please steward your day-to-day life as one who practices what they preach. And you can start today.

A little more love and thoughtful responses, okay?
