Reflecting on Authentic giving.
The holidays are often a time spent with family and loved ones, filled with festivities, travel, gift exchanges, and reflections on the year gone by. It’s a season many of us eagerly anticipate, a time to connect, celebrate, and share joy.
However, this season can also come with expectations, both internal and external, about giving and receiving.
Authentic giving, to me, means offering thoughtful gifts to loved ones and those in need without overwhelming or depleting myself. A meaningful, considerate gesture can carry just as much, if not more, value than a costly one. In the spirit of giving, it’s important to remember: You don’t have to give what you don’t have.
Overextending yourself to meet unrealistic expectations can lead to emotional, mental, and financial strain. Respecting your boundaries is as vital during this season as it is at any other time. This is also a time to give love and care to yourself.
It’s easy to get caught up in the rush of giving to others, but don’t forget to extend the same generosity inward. Make plans that align with your energy and resources, and don’t be afraid to say no when needed.
Remember, you can’t pour from an empty cup. Take time to rest, reflect, and recharge. Celebrate how far you’ve come and encourage yourself to keep going.
Gratitude for your journey can replenish your spirit and allow you to spread love and kindness more freely to those who need it. So, as you plan your giving this season, ask yourself: What are you giving YOU this season?
