Q1 Was Not Quiet

Helloooooo!

Hey Fam!

You know that feeling when the new year hype settles, and real life kicks back in? That's Q1 in a nutshell: the exam pressure, the Valentine feels, and somewhere between all of it, people quietly asking the questions that actually matter. How am I doing? Who can I talk to? Where do I belong? Well, we were ready with answers. Across campuses, communities, airwaves, and screens, Mentally Aware Nigeria Initiative showed up to hold those conversations, and this quarter reminded us, again, that mental health conversations do not wait for the perfect moment. They happen in university halls, community centres, radio stations, and comment sections. They happen at 7 PM on Zoom and at 11 AM on the radio. They happen when someone finally feels safe enough to speak, and someone else is ready enough to listen. And this quarter? We made sure those spaces existed everywhere. Here is everything we got into

Highlight of 2025

Conversations That Hit Different

From campuses to community spaces, our Student Advocacy Network (STAN) kept safe spaces open and conversations real throughout the quarter. Across institutions, Conversation Cafés set the tone for the year with themes like prioritising mental health, finding connection in an increasingly busy world, and embracing self-love. These sessions created grounded, reflective spaces where students could pause, share honestly, and explore what caring for their mental health truly looks like in their everyday lives.

Beyond campuses, these conversations extended into community spaces. Sessions like “Love, Loneliness, and Everything in Between” created room for honest reflections on relationships and emotional experiences, while “Thriving Era Begins Here: Mental Health Unplugged” brought people together to redefine what it truly means to thrive beyond curated appearances.

Across all these spaces, one thing remained constant: people showed up as they were and left feeling more seen, more grounded, and more connected. That’s the magic we’re building, and we’re just getting started.

Training the Change-Makers

Safe spaces don’t create themselves.

Behind every conversation is someone who knows how to listen, how to respond, and how to support without judgment.

So this quarter, we trained young people across Nigeria to do exactly that.

To recognise when someone is struggling.

To start conversations that actually help.

To show up with empathy, not assumptions.

Because real impact? It’s people showing up for people.

On Air, Online, And All Around You (In A Good Way 😌)

We took mental health conversations beyond physical spaces and into everyday life.

On the radio, we had our biweekly radio show “Let’s Talk Mental Health On Radio” and talked about real issues people are facing, from pressure and burnout to relationships and emotional well-being.

Online? Even louder.

From Instagram Lives to X Spaces, the conversations were raw, relatable, and very real.

The kind where you pause and think, “wait… this is exactly how I feel.”

And the best part? People didn’t just watchthey engaged, shared, and kept the conversations going

Superheroes Behind the Scenes

While all this was happening publicly, something just as important was happening behind the scenes.

People were reaching out. People were being heard. Over 3000 people got mental health support.

Our counsellors continued to provide safe, confidential spaces for individuals navigating real-life challenges one conversation at a time. They remind us that mental health support is as much about listening as it is about action.

Content That Makes You Pause And Sometimes Rethink

If you’ve been on our socials, you already know, we didn’t come to play.

From awareness campaigns to everyday mental health reminders, we kept showing up with content that made people stop scrolling and actually think.

Because sometimes, all it takes is one post, one sentence, one moment to shift something inside you.

We also kept our daily Rumination @5 series going strong, giving our community a moment of quiet reflection before the day truly begins. Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is pause.

Stay Connected & Keep the Momentum Going

From trainings to radio, live sessions to social media campaigns, this quarter proved that mental health advocacy is not just alive, it's thriving. The energy, voices, and commitment across our community keep reminding us that change is possible and already happening.

And we are not slowing down. In the next quarter, we're gearing up for more community conversations, deeper campus engagements, expanded digital programming, and new opportunities to build the kind of support systems that leave no one behind.

What’s Ahead

MANI turns 10 this June 🎉

Ten years of showing up. Ten years of conversations that changed lives. Ten years of building a community that truly cares.

We’ll also be closing an important chapter with the Bridging the Gaps (BTG) project, while stepping into an even bigger phase of impact.

New energy. New direction. Same mission. The next quarter is already shaping up to be even bigger, bolder, and louder, and we can't wait to share it with you.

See you there!

Self-Care Reminder

Before you go…

Have you eaten today? Drank water? Rested? Breathed?

Don’t just survive this quarter; take care of yourself, too.

Don't just chase goals, chase balance too. Rest, laugh, breathe. Your mental health is a big deal.

Protect your peace. Respect your limits. Choose yourself, over and over again.

Because you matter. Always.

With gratitude,

The MANI Team
