Memories and timelines

Why do good memories make us cry sometimes? We remember a wonderful time in our lives and we tear up as the memory runs through our minds. We remember a time when our lives were different and our priorities were different and even our problems were different and we cry cause we’re in a different time with different priorities and different perhaps even bigger problems and our hearts ache to go back to a familiar time where we had control over what was happening, at least to a large extent.

We want to hold on to the familiar we once knew and overcame, instead of the unfamiliar that lies ahead for us. However, remember that the familiar we ache for now was once an unfamiliar period for us and the unfamiliar phase we’re in now will become a familiar we ache for again as time goes on. Memories come and go, and sometimes the intensity with which we feel them is dependent on the time and phase we’re at in our lives. Always remember that.
