Make room to accommodate other people’s reality

One of the sides to adulthood that nobody really prepares you for, is your reality being different from others, particularly your friends.

When you’re in school, you and your friends are basically, for the most part, on the same timetable with how life goes for you. You resume around the same time, have classes and exams around the same time, and leave school around the same time. Basically, your calendars look pretty similar all year long.

Now it’s the real world, and the rules are different. Life happens at different times for different people, and you start to see others get what you want and vice versa. However, there are times when we still want to align our calendars with those of our friends. In those times, please remember that the rules of life differ for everyone, and so everyone is living a different reality.

Give room for grace in many situations, and practice the act of being kind and understanding.

Genuinely celebrate others’ wins and trust that yours will also come in due time. Lastly, remember that life is a marathon, not a sprint.
