Let Yourself Feel

Sometimes things do not go our way in life, sometimes people hurt us deeply. When these kinds of things happen we get angry, sad, or even afraid sometimes.

It is completely fine to feel this way when we encounter bad things. If a close friend has said or done something awful, then it’s completely natural to get angry or to be down. But nowadays the unconscious behaviour of keeping our emotions in a bottle, I like to call it the emotional bottle, is very common; people don’t want to let themselves feel their emotions anymore, due to fear of being misunderstood or the fear of being judged. But remember, we’re human, allow yourself to feel things! Let the emotions wash over you and pass through you, because if you keep them in your bottle for too long, they eventually overflow. This sometimes leads us to lash out at others unintentionally because the person which you should have expressed your anger or sadness towards, you haven’t seen them in two months.

So when people make you feel angry or sad, talk to them, tell them what you think they did wrong and how it made you feel.

This doesn't only apply to negative emotions, but to positive ones too, allow yourself to feel happy, be proud of yourself after a long day at work, and allow yourself to feel excited about the things that matter to you, it’s ok. Emotions are part of being human, embracing them is part of self-care.
