- “Identity ≠ Performance”
“Identity ≠ Performance”
Too many of us grew up equating worth with output;
- If I succeed, I matter.
- If I’m productive, I’m worthy.
- If I perform well, I belong.
We learned early that applause = acceptance.
And that being “useful” made us lovable.
But that’s a lie.
A dangerous, draining one.
Your identity is not a KPI; It’s not your title, your GPA, your “potential,” or how many people clap when you show up.
You are not a walking to-do list.
You are not your last performance review.
Let that sink in!
If you're not performing, hustling, achieving, or “being useful”... do you still feel like enough?
That’s the real test of identity.
Because identity rooted in performance means:
- Burnout becomes a badge of honor.
- Rest feels like laziness.
- Failure feels like a personal flaw.
- Saying “no” makes you feel guilty.
But identity rooted in truth means:
- You can rest without guilt.
- You can fail and not fall apart.
- You can say “I don’t know” and still feel whole.
Your identity is not what you do, it’s who you are.
And who you are is: Loved. Seen. Enough. Even on your worst day.
