Do you wonder too?

People, people, people. From the moment I left my mother’s belly, I was already dealing with people. I mean, the doctor already expected me to cry. Then I grew older and got to really experience people. Then, like Aṣa would say, I wondered why the hearts of men could be so dark. Aṣa, in that song, goes on to say, ‘It’s okay, it’s the way that we’ve been made.’(You should listen to that song by the way, it's fantastic, it’s called ‘Sometimes I Wonder’, trust me.)

What I take away from this song is not that every human being is evil or bad in one way or another, but that we have been made with the ability to choose; it is a choice to be good or bad.

Why do people choose to be bad, then, I wonder. Why choose to hurt someone, to treat someone in a way that will scar them? I often replay the question in my head: what could justify someone intentionally hurting another? Nothing. That’s my conclusion: absolutely nothing can justify intentionally hurting someone. It’s a choice, an evil one, yes, but nevertheless, it’s a choice some people have made. I won’t concern myself with people’s reasons for being evil anymore, I’ve decided.

Aṣa wondered why the hearts of men could be so dark, but she also told us to shine our light; the hearts of people around us can be very dark, my friend, but you and I’s hearts can be bright. People hurt us, and we wonder why they would do such a thing. It’s okay, my friend, leave people to their evils and let’s shine our light; be understanding, be patient, be considerate, be tolerant, be kind. That is how you shine your light.

Have the best day!
