Capture Joy
If I were asked to embody joy, I think I would give it the form of glowing butterflies. Joy is so light and can be so fleeting at times. It passes you by like a beautiful butterfly and we give a little smile. Why do we have to wait though? Why do we have to wait for those little moments to manifest randomly? I wonder, could we capture joy?
The other day my sister was quite sad after a scolding from my mother, so she left the room. Suddenly we hear her giggling and calling out our names to look at her, and then she appears with her wet and soapy hair shaped into a mohawk. My mother and I had a good giggle at her hair, but my sister’s laugh was undoubtedly the loudest.
It was quite a ridiculous scene, but from that scene, I realized something so beautiful. The girl who was sad just a few minutes ago had created a moment of happiness for herself; she decided she would not wait for the glowing butterflies to fly by, but she would call them to her, and give herself a good laugh.
My sister is living proof that we can create joy in our lives, stretch out our fingers for the butterflies to land on and brighten up our lives.
Sometimes it really does seem like we haven’t been truly happy in a while, doesn’t it? Well, I’m going to capture joy for myself; maybe I’ll have a day out, or make some art, maybe call some friends and family over or get some ice cream. How will you capture joy?
