Being the ‘bigger’ person
You've probably been in a situation where you've been encouraged to "be the bigger person". But what does that actually mean?
The idea of being the bigger person has been misconstrued to mean placing everyone's needs above yours and accepting poor behaviour and abuse from others. Sometimes, being the bigger person seems like allowing your boundaries to be crossed. Sometimes it seems like allowing others to invalidate your feelings. It could also mean secretly nursing hurt and resentment, and never speaking your mind.
It's okay to not be the ‘bigger person’ if that's how it feels. Being the bigger person in any situation should never make you feel bad.
