Addiction
Addiction is not just limited to drugs and alcohol. It could be a habit or an activity that you feel compelled to indulge in.
It’s about more than just willpower; it alters the way the brain works. Yes, you know these things are not good for your physical or mental well-being, but you just cannot seem to help engaging in them.
Always remember that someone with addiction is more than just their addiction; you cannot tell the battle someone is fighting simply by looking at them. So instead of judgment or lectures, offer compassion, empathy and be a safe space.
Managing any addiction is not easy, and the road to recovery is a long one. Relapses do not erase previous effort; it is part of the process.
Healing takes time, so give yourself grace and also remember to extend grace.
